Welcome to Friends of Wexford General Hospital Website
The Friends of Wexford General Hospital is a voluntary group set up in April 2006. The participants in this group are from the local community, hospital personnel and supported by South East Radio.
The Friends are committed to fundraising to provide a purpose built day unit for cancer care for the people of County Wexford.
Present Situation for Cancer Day Care
Day care cancer services have been provided at Wexford General Hospital since 1997.
The statistics for 2004/2005 clearly demonstrate the increase in the number of patients using the various cancer day services at the hospital. Unfortunately, the demand for these services continue to rise year by year, which makes the provision of a purpose built unit for cancer day services a priority.
Proposed New Day Unit for Cancer Care
The proposed unit will be purpose built and accommodate all cancer day services in one location.
The existing day services on St. Patrick’s Ward, together with its nurse specialists will transfer to the new unit.
A large treatment area with single bays will be provided for the chemotherapy/transfusion patients referred from the hospital.
