Statement from the Board of Friends of Wexford General Hospital.

Following recent disclosures regarding the use of Charitable funds, our Board has been prompted to clarify the position of Friends of Wexford General Hospital. Friends of Wexford General Hospital is a Charity, approved and registered by the Revenue Commissioners – Charity Reference code CHY 17610. Funds raised in the name of, and funds Managed and administered by Friends of Wexford General Hospital have never been used, nor requested, to supplement any employee of the HSE, or any other person.

The Funds administered by Friends of Wexford General Hospital are strictly Managed and controlled by a Voluntary Board of Trustees. This Board have a formal structure, rules and regulations. The workings are fully transparent to all Board members, the HSE, and our Independent Auditors, Asple & Co.

Funding is only granted, after a written submission is made to a board meeting, considered by and approved by the board.

The primary objective of Friends of Wexford General Hospital is to fundraise and help others fundraise to improve patient care at our hospital. To date, projects that have been in receipt of funding from us include –

  • Funding Oncology Day Care Unit €1.2m
  • 2 new bronchoscopes and one new Colonoscope €117,457
  • Two New Ultrasound scanners €160,000
  • New CT Scanner €670,000
  • Funding for Mini bus to transport patients requiring radiotherapy to and from Waterford. € 35,143
  • Funding for re-structuring work for Colorectal screening Clinic. €30,000
  • Funding for re-structuring work in Emergency Department. €34,000
  • Two new foetal monitors €34,000
  • One new infant ventilator & upgrading a second €38,000
  • New Hysteroscopes for the Hysteroscopy clinic. €88,000
